sharpCITY has its roots in early collaborations between Henning Rasmuss
and Thorsten Deckler. In 2003 sharpCITY was formalised together with
Anne Graupner as a collective vehicle for research motivated by a passionate
interest in Johannesburg. Since then several projects ranging from product
to exhibition and event design were carried out.
These collaborations have enabled us to attune our practice as architects
to the specific, dynamic histories and potentialities of Johannesburg
and to immerse ourselves in the harsh reality, dynamism and unsung beauty
of this city. This results in a way of looking at and listening to what
already exists and to inform projects through the hidden, marginalised,
overlooked and sublime.
